The City of Fort Wayne is investing more than $20 million in infrastructure throughout the city this year. The projects were announced Wednesday.
The projects are all about transportation. More than $20 million will go towards street, sidewalk and trail improvements throughout Fort Wayne. The City evaluates the conditions of each neighborhood each year and gives them a rating in order to determine which projects should be prioritized.
Frank Suarez with the City says installing wheelchair ramps to become compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act has become more of a priority over the past three years.
“Obviously they can’t all be done in one year, or even three or four years, we are trying to work on putting over fifteen hundred in.”
City Utilities will also be investing more than $35 million this year to improve neighborhood sewer and water infrastructure. That includes replacing miles of water main, and building new storm pipes to reduce flooding.
The construction projects will be out for bids over the next few months.
