Decatur Sculpture Tour Carves Out Place In Public Art Scene

Just thirty minutes south of Fort Wayne, the town of Decatur is getting ready to celebrate art in a big way this Friday evening, with the kick-off of its fifth annual Sculpture Tour.

The first tour in 2012 featured 12 works and eight artists. This year's tour showcases an impressive 31 pieces, by 18 artists, from six states.

One Decatur native, Greg Mendez, is a professional sculptor that has been involved in the project since it began.

WBOI's Julia Meek decided to track the growth of both the tour and the artist, so she invited Mendez into the studio to discuss his take on the pleasures of public artwork.
