Hop River Brewing Company Opens Doors And Taps

Mary Corinne Lowenstein
As part of the downtown riverfront social scene, Hop River Brewery is looking forward to sharing it's "beer-love affair" with the community.

After 2 years in the planning, renovation and building stages, Hop River Brewing Company, in the historic Wells Street neighborhood, is opening its doors and its taps this Saturday.

The heart and soul of the Hop River enterprise is its brew house, at the corner of Fourth and Harrrison Streets, now producing at full speed, thanks to head brewer, Kevin Debs.

Brew house tours are available for ages 21 and over, but this family-friendly venue encourages everyone to relax and spend time in the tap room, fully stocked with playing cards, board games and pinball machines.

A sampling of its from-scratch seasonal menu will be available this weekend, according to Director of Marketing and Human Resources, Mary Corinne Lowenstein, and 5 or 6 tasty brews, including a Lasers in the Jungle IPA, the premiere of Midnight Retreat imperial stout, their collaboration from Junk Ditch called Double Agent, and local Kekionga Cider.

With the brew house in full production, several varieties of brew are flowing, including Kölsch, IPAs and imperial ale.

What isn't on draft is an assortment of wines from area wineries.

Owners Paris McFarthing and Ben Jackson are proud to join the downtown riverfront social scene, as well as the local craft beer movement.

"We've definitely focused on a unique experience, what we want to provide, the property we chose, and the atmosphere we want to create," explains Paris, "and we want that to be one that people come back for time and time again." Jackson adds, "We hope to be good neighbors for the area."

Doors and taps open this Saturday and Sunday at noon.
