Golf season is coming to a close for several local parks, but much of the summer was plagued by rain and flooding, resulting in a significant decrease in participation around golf courses.
Shoaff and McMillen Parks will be the first of several closing their golf courses within the next week in preparation for the winter months.
While closing the courses is standard practice for this time of the year, many of them saw significant decreases in activity in the summer due to massive rain and flooding levels.
Golf Course Manager for Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Rick Hemsoth ensures despite the difficult weather this year, the courses are looking just fine for 2016.
“Foster recovered tremendously and is in really, really good shape,” said Hemsoth. “McMillen recovered tremendously. The weird thing about the whole summer was that actually Shoaff had much less rain on the north side of Fort Wayne than we did on the south, so it’s in also great shape.”
Hemsoth says pricing won’t change for membership in 2016, although members of Foster Park will be eligible for discounts next year due to the summer rain.
