Senate Republicans reiterated they do not anticipate any legislative action for the embattled Department of Child Services this session. Following the departure of Judge Mary Beth Bonaventura, Governor Eric Holcomb called for an assessment of the department.
Senate President Pro Tem David Long, (R-Fort Wayne) says the governor, through the Annie E. Casey Foundation, has hired an analyst who expects to release a report after the end of the session.
Legislative leaders expect Governor Holcomb will address the DCS controversy at the State of the State. The Senate Republicans are focusing on opioids, workforce development, Sunday alcohol sales, high school diplomas, school funding, and the regulation of property seizure.
