Schools' A-F Grades Show Improvement

Indiana students are at the top of their academic game. That’s one takeaway from the state’s A-F grades, which were released Wednesday at the monthly State Board of Education  meeting.

Around 180 more schools received A’s this year under the state’s accountability system, making  the majority of Indiana schools an A school.  Fifty-one percent of schools in the state received As, 35 percent earned Bs and Cs and 10 percent fall  in the D and F zone.

Before releasing the grades though, three districts and five schools approached the board,  asking for their previously submitted appeal to be reconsidered after mistakes in submitting  the appeal eliminated them from the process.

The board voted to look at these requests and  address the A-F appeals process at its December meeting to avoid future mishaps.

The board and state superintendent Glenda Ritz heard these grievances; “What we know about our current system is that there’s flaws within it on the calculations and all the configurations of schools.”

This is the last year A-F grades will be calculated in this way, as a new systems is being discussed  for next schools.
