Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse will be the first floor restaurant in the new Skyline Tower in downtown Fort Wayne. As WBOI’s Lisa Ryan reports, this will be the fourth Ruth’s Chris in Indiana.

Franchise partner Larry Griggers says when he first presented the idea of opening Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse in Fort Wayne to the restaurant’s corporate office, he was met with silence.

“There was a long pause because I’d been studying cities like Omaha, Lexington, Lincoln, Nebraska, so forth,” Griggers said.

But he said he ultimately chose Fort Wayne because of the city’s promise to revitalize downtown.

Griggers describes Ruth’s Chris as an upscale restaurant, but a comfortable environment.

“It’s not real pretentious. The food is very pretentious, but the atmosphere is very welcoming,” he said.

The steakhouse will seat between 250-300 people and employ about 50. It’s projected to open in fall of 2017.

Ruth’s Chris won’t be the only upscale establishment in Skyline Tower. DeBrand Fine Chocolates as well as The Golden, which specializes in craft cocktails, will also be tenants.
