An 1840's style canal boat was launched Tuesday evening on the city's downtown waters. Fort Wayne's Friends of the Rivers, the Community Foundation and AWS Foundation, worked together to bring the boat, "Sweet Breeze," to Fort Wayne.
Tours on the Sweet Breeze will begin this weekend, and the group is now busy working to get their next project afloat, an amphibious DUKW military vessel, familiarly known as a "Duck Boat" which will afford passengers a view of the city by land, before hitting the river.
Both crafts are accessible to people with disabilities, and bookings will be managed by Fort Wayne Outfitters, just north of the Historic Wells Street Bridge.
Earlier this week, WBOI's Julia Meek met with Friends of the Rivers president, Irene Walters, and executive director of Tri-State Watershed Alliance, Dan Wire, to discuss the city's ongoing riverfront development, what challenges the project has had to bridge, and what future adventures lie around the next bend.
