Vincent Village Unveils First Of Seven New Homes

Mayor Tom Henry and the City of Fort Wayne helped cut the ribbon on the first of seven planned rehabilitated homes on the Vincent Village campus. The goal of the housing is to assist in decreasing homelessness in the city.

Fort Wayne’s Office of Housing and Neighborhood Services provided $500,000 in federal Housing and Urban Development, or HUD, funding. With that money, Vincent Village was able to not only rehabilitate this home but also cover demolition and rehab costs on others.

Vincent Village executive director Denise Andorfer says its operating budget is built largely through private donations, and these home renovations would not be possible without HUD dollars.

“It can be very costly maintaining this kind of housing stock long-term. Even for an individual with one home it’s costly, let alone a magnitude of homes.”

The tenants of the new home, located in Fort Wayne’s Oxford neighborhood, will pay rent based on their income. Andorfer says she’s expects all seven homes to be finished by this summer.
