Since 2007, 89.1 WBOI has partnered with the Fort Wayne Museum of Art to create a radio series that features the top five works of writing titled the American Voice Nominees for the Annual Scholastic Art and Writing Awards.  This partnership has been highlighted at the National Awards Ceremony at Carnegie Hall every year since 2008.

This partnership helps motivate students to achieve and to see their creativity applied and celebrated within our community.  In addition, the Northeast Indiana-Northwest Ohio Region has placed in the top four out of 130 regions each of the past three years.

WBOI is proud to collaborate with the Museum of Art to encourage students’ creativity and aspirations.

I was trapped in the living room, virtually chained to the coffee table, a jumbo pencil in a death grip, and I didn’t know how to spell my last name.

Hey, folks. Welcome to “Conquering the World in 5 Easy-ish steps!”

Hopefully these other earths have people of power.

It was a mild November day when she first strode past his post. The wind made the trees shiver, and leaves fell with a gentle yet firm resolve. It was hard for him not to flinch as the occasional leaf caught his hat or his nose on its journey to the ground. The wind, paired with the tasteless gray sky, made him feel a little chilly, but his red uniform kept the wind out fairly well.

Rain

my mother always told me to put a raincoat on.
still i'd go out into the drizzle and twirl until my face was
framed with little ringlets and the soles of my shoes were
filled with small puddles.
“oh honey,” she’d say
“you’re a mess.”
you loved to watch me dance,
but only in the rain.
