The Nights Before Christmas

Rob Martinez

The summer is in full swing but for Rob Martinez, the calendar always reads Christmas.  89.1 WBOI's resident holiday music expert wanted to celebrate the month of July with a special one time version of his show "The Nights Before Christmas".  This special airs on Tuesday, July 7th from 8 PM to 10 PM.

"We've watched our Facebook page explode with new likes since January," Martinez said.  "It's gone from 150+ likes to over 450+ in less than six months.  I really wanted to do a show for these new potential listeners so they don't have to wait until December."

In the early 1960s, comedian Vaughn Meader recorded a satirical album in which he poked some gentle fun at President John F. Kennedy. He wasn't the first person to imitate a sitting president, but Meader was the first to add such a satirical bent to his work.

It was ground breaking at the time, and his first JFK recording, The First Family, became the fastest-selling album in U.S. history up to that point.
