United Way Names Fort Wayne Native as CEO

The United Way of Allen County announced David Nicole will become the organization's president and CEO in November.

The United Way of Allen County will soon have new leadership.

The organization announced Monday that David Nicole, 38, has been chosen to become UWAC’s new president and CEO. He’s expected to start in November.

The full UWAC board of directors voted to appoint Nicole at its Sep. 11 meeting.

Board Chairman Steve Smith said in a statement the organization is eagerly anticipating working with Nicole.

"The arrival of a new CEO for any organization brings a robust opportunity for creative new beginnings," Smith said.

Allen County Selected for Pre-K Pilot Program

Allen County is among the five counties picked to participate in Indiana's pre-K pilot program.

The program provides up to ten million dollars – along with local matching funds – to help low-income four-year-olds attend pre-kindergarten classes. Vouchers would go to families with incomes below 127 percent of the poverty line.

United Way of Allen County was selected to lead the campaign to bring the pilot here, and UWAC Director of Community Impact Jeanne Zehr says the program could serve more than 1,400 children when it’s up and running.
