The official start of summer is nearly here. And while that usually means the kids  are home, the weather’s warm, and summer activities abound…for many  communities, it also means an uptick in violence.  Fort Wayne is not immune to the problem, either.

Non-fatal shootings in the city  have more than doubled in the last ten years. The issue is getting attention: city leaders have begun talking about it in recent  months with public safety roundtables.  

But Fort Wayne Pastor Carlton Lynch is tackling the issue head on.

City Council Hears New Anti-Violence Plan

The council session garnered a large turnout of faith leaders, community leaders, and citizens.

Fort Wayne City Council members dedicated their entire session Tuesday to discussing a new anti-violence plan called "Bridges to a Better Community."                                      

Members of the Fort Wayne Urban League created it in response to the near record number of killings in the city this year.

The plan a large amount of data on the disparity between races when it comes to poverty, education, and crime, and specific recommendations on how to reduce violence.
