How To Sign Up For The Health Insurance Exchange

This week we’re taking a look at changes to Indiana's health care system under the Affordable Care Act. Now that the exchange is up and running, we’ll see what the process of signing up for an exchange plan is like. 

Healthcare.gov is the place to be in Indiana if you’re looking for one of the new exchange plans. First you’ll go through the basics of creating an account – provide some basic info, pick a user name and password, and then you can start your marketplace application.

School Voucher Enrollment Doubles

Enrollment in Indiana’s private school voucher program has more than doubled this school year.  Indiana education officials confirmed Tuesday they’ve received more than 20,000 applications for voucher dollars.

That means the program has more than quadrupled its enrollment since it started two years ago.

School Choice Indiana president Betsy Wiley, a voucher program advocate, attributes the increase to House Bill 1003, which won state lawmakers’ approval last session.

Henry Announces $71 Million Downtown Development

Downtown Fort Wayne is poised to develop another large scale private-public partnership.  Mayor Tom Henry announced plans Monday for new corporate space, housing, and retail. 

The Ash Brokerage is set to move its national headquarters to the space at the corner of Harrison and Berry, bringing with it 200 existing employees, and hopes of adding up to 115 more in the coming years. Ash will invest nearly $20 million in the project.

State Police Target Marijuana Trafficking

Hoosiers will see an increased police presence on Indiana highways this week as state troopers join five other states for a crackdown on illegal drug transportation.

It’s called the Six State Trooper Project – a joint effort of law enforcement in Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Indiana.  In the past, the project has focused on things such as impaired driving and seatbelt usage.  This week’s focus is marijuana trafficking on state highways.

Extended Interview: "The Peacemakers"

The International Day of Peace is Saturday, September 20th, and Fort Wayne musicians are commemorating the occasion with a special, Midwest premier of Karl Jenkins' The Peacemakers.

The show includes the Heartland Chamber Chorale, Heartland Festival Chorus and Orchestra, and the Fort Wayne Children's Choir singing the words of some of history's great peace advocates.

WBOI's Julia Meek sat down with the Chorale's Maestro, Robert Nance, and soloist, Lori Sandstrom, to find out more about The Peacemakers.

FSSA Wants to Expand Healthy Indiana Plan

Negotiations are underway between the state and federal government to provide healthcare coverage to more Hoosiers by expanding the Healthy Indiana Plan.

Since taking office in January, Governor Mike Pence has been singularly focused on extending the Healthy Indiana Plan for another year.  The federal government granted that extension earlier this month.
