Fort Wayne’s Board of Park Commissioners discussed riverfront development during a meeting Thursday. The project might be partially funded by an income tax increase, if City Council approves the plan.
If approved, it would increase the average household’s taxes by $5.77 each month, based on the average Allen County household gross income of $49,092. It would bring the total income tax rate to 1.5 percent, which is less than Indiana’s average.
The funds would be used for future riverfront development projects and improvements to the city’s sidewalks and alleys.
The Park Board also decided on a name for the riverfront park, which will now be called Promenade Park.
