Director Al Moll says Foster Park is a cornerstone of Fort Wayne's parks system.

Colonel David Foster's strong belief in the importance of a city park network here in Fort Wayne earned him the title "Father of the Park System" back in the early 20th century.

And the space bearing his name, Foster Park, continues to be among the brightest stars among the 86 public municipal parks residents enjoy today.

Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation director Al Moll says the park's unique features and rich legacy are responsible for making Foster what he calls "The People's Park."

This lofty designation led WBOI's Julia Meek to meet with Moll for a deeper look into the secret of this south side park's perennial popularity.

To learn more about Foster Park, and all of the Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation System, you can visit its website.

A Fort Wayne native, Julia is a radio host, graphic artist, and community volunteer, who has contributed to NIPR both on- and off-air for forty years. Besides being WBOI's arts & culture reporter, she currently co-produces and hosts Folktales and Meet the Music.
