Fort Wayne Composer Writes Music for Papal Visit

Sep 23, 2015

When Pope Francis attends the papal mass this Friday evening in New York City's Madison Square Garden, one musical offering will come from Fort Wayne.

An arrangement of the hymn, "Alleluia, Sing to Jesus" was composed especially for the occasion by Bob Hobby, music director at Trinity English Lutheran Church, and is one of two pieces Hobby prepared for the papal visit.

Before he left for the festivities, he met with WBOI's Julia Meek to share his insights on this once-in-a-lifetime experience, and an exclusive sampling of his composition.

Hobby's scoring of Widor's "Tu Es Petrus" will be part of the Prayer Service at New York's St. Patrick's Cathedral  this Thursday, and "Alleluia, Sing to Jesus" will be performed at the Papal Mass in Madison Square Garden on Friday evening.
