"In the Watershed: A Journey Down the Maumee River" is a brand new book by Fort Wayne native, Ryan Schnurr.
What began as a fascination for the river he lived near in his younger days, turned itself into a personal research project for Ryan, and then took the form of a short piece of nonfiction for a college writing course.
Encouraged by his professor, who saw a book buried in that essay, he knew the next step would have to be meeting that 'Mighty Maumee' up close and personal.
The story unfolds with an easy narrative style that embraces the history, culture, economics and environmental impact of the small but mighty waterway, as the author actually walks and canoes its length.
For a sneak preview of the book, and the author's passion, WBOI's Julia Meek invited Schnurr into the studio earlier this week to discuss where the journey has taken him, and where it will lead.
