In The Ginger Kitchen, Ice Cream is Art

July was National Ice Cream Month, and even though we've now hopped into August, the tasty treat continues to be on our minds here at WBOI.

Turns out we're not the only ones.

Back in 2012, Jon and Amber Recker founded The Ginger Kitchen, producing ice cream with fresh ingredients in small batches. Since then, they've been taking those who subscribe to their service on a whirlwind tour of unexpected flavors, including Chocolate Cayenne, Balsamic Fig, and even a cheese-based ice cream.

WBOI's Julia Meek recently talked to Amber Recker about the passion and work that goes into every batch of her artisan desserts.

A Fort Wayne native, Julia is a radio host, graphic artist, and community volunteer, who has contributed to NIPR both on- and off-air for forty years. Besides being WBOI's arts & culture reporter, she currently co-produces and hosts Folktales and Meet the Music.
