Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry delivered his 2015 State of the City address Wednesday.

Henry praised the economic development Fort Wayne saw in 2014 – $166 million in private investment, and more than 1,000 new jobs. He also touted progress on downtown projects like the Ash Brokerage headquarters and the recently announced Cityscape Flats.

Last year also brought infrastructure improvements for neighborhoods and utilities systems, with another $20 million investment slated for this year.

“I’ve lived in Fort Wayne almost all my life," Henry said, "and there’s an excitement in our city that I’ve never seen before. And I suspect most of you have seen it, too.”

And that momentum is the theme of Henry’s bid for re-election as mayor in 2015.

But in his address, he also outlined challenges that will need to be tackled in the year ahead.

While unemployment is down, there are still many unemployed and underemployed Fort Wayne residents. Henry also cited the need to address the city’s homeless population.
