Retiring U.S. Senator Dan Coats visited the WBOI studios to discuss state and national politics and his plans for the future.

After leaving the U.S. Senate in 2010, Democrat Evan Bayh was replaced by Republican Dan Coats. This year, the opposite could happen: Coats is retiring, and now Bayh hopes to replace him. Republican Todd Young and Libertarian Lucy Brenton are running against Bayh.

In part one of a two-part conversation, Sen. Coats talks about the presidential election and how Indiana has influenced national politics.

In the second part of the conversation, Sen. Coats reflects on his time representing Indiana in Congress, and he talks about his views on the future of the Republican party.
