Wednesday, August 13th, marks a special holiday for about 10 percent of the world. It’s International Lefthanders Day, an occasion to have a little fun and mark the history and influence of the southpaws of the world.

Fort Wayne has its own celebration, LeftFest, going on Wednesday at 4000 South Wayne St.

Among the LeftFest highlights will be a presentation called "The Sinister Hand," by outspoken southpaw, Marilyn Moran-Townsend.

WBOI's own left-hander, Julia Meek, recently spoke with Moran-Townsend to find out just what's so special about being a leftie in a right-handed world.

A Fort Wayne native, Julia is a radio host, graphic artist, and community volunteer, who has contributed to NIPR both on- and off-air for forty years. Besides being WBOI's arts & culture reporter, she currently co-produces and hosts Folktales and Meet the Music.
