Longtime Public Radio Host and Advocate, Leah Tourkow, Dies at 91

Friends, family and fans from around the community are remembering a longtime radio veteran and a key member of the NIPR family, Leah Tourkow, who died this week at the age of 91.

Leah Tourkow spent more than 60 years on the airwaves, and spent much of that time as an ardent supporter and occasional savior of public radio in Fort Wayne.

Former NIPR Host Doug Gruber Dies at 77

WBOI's former host and jazz coordinator, Doug Gruber, died Wednesday after a long battle with illness. As a volunteer, Gruber helped shape the sound of NIPR for nearly two decades.

Former WBOI host and longtime station volunteer Doug Gruber died Wednesday at the age of 77 after battling complications from several illnesses.

Gruber's distinctive voice helped shape the organization’s musical footprint and overall sound for nearly two decades.

He started as a classical music host for WBNI, but his passion for the likes of Dave Brubeck and others eventually led him to become WBOI’s jazz coordinator and host of the Saturday program “All That Jazz.”

Doug Gruber, NIPR Host and Volunteer, Steps Down

Northeast Indiana Public Radio’s jazz coordinator and longtime volunteer, Doug Gruber, notified station management this week he will no longer host his popular music program, “All That Jazz,” and will step away from his other station duties, as well.

He says health concerns drove his decision to take time away from the station.
